Performances and Instruments

How Perfomance “Spells” work:

Performances are a main focus of this campaign and have been expanded to fulfill their new role. When playing for a crowd, players will roll Initiative to see who goes first. Then, each player will have the opportunity to roll their normal Performance skills without taking Drain*. Afterwards, the players must choose from the list of Performance spells for the rest of the concert. Each requires a certain amount of successes (successes are a 5 or 6 on a six-sided die) and inflicts Drain on the band member in question. More options will be added to the list as the band levels up. The success of a concert relies on how successful each band member plays/rolls.

*Drain is the overall wear and tear that the performer’s body experiences during the concert. They can overcome the damage by rolling their combined Willpower and Body dice pool. The successes they roll will negate the damage done.

Performance “Spells”

The beat goes on: (Successes required: 4, Drain: 2 points but increases by 1 with every test during the concert) The rush of starting a setlist has wore off. You’re now settling into your normal groove but need to keep your audience excited.
Solo: (Successes required: 5, Drain: 3 points) Rock out alone for a bit and show everyone how cool you are. You take a +2 modifier for your next performance roll in the concert. It helps your bandmates too. They take a +1 modifier for their next performance roll.
Banter: (Combined successes required: 4 x the amount of members involved, Drain: 3 points each) Distract the audience with some witty commentary while you set up your next move. The entire band will receive a +4 modifier to their next drain test.
Minor stunt: (Successes required: 5, Drain: 4 points) You do something to get the crowd going within the confines of the stage. Maybe you slide on your knees or swing your instrument over your head. Something like that. Take a +2 modifier for your next two performance rolls in the concert.

Instruments:

The price of an instrument is determined by its rank and size. While a character may play multiple instruments at the same time, like singing into the mic and playing the guitar, only one instrument’s positive modifiers will be counted into their performance rolls. However, all negative modifiers will be counted.

Size Number: 1 Portability is the main selling point for these instruments. That and small things tend to look cute. Microphone, Flute, Triangle, Tambourine, Melodica, etc.
Size Number: 2 You can still generally carry these instruments anywhere but some might need an amp or some form of electricity to operate. Most instruments fit this category. Guitars, Keyboards, Mixtables, Violin, Trumpet, Bongo Drums, etc.
Size Number: 3 Setup might take some time but hey, it’s worth it. A drum set, Cello ,Xylophone, Double Bass, Tubas.
Size Number: 4 You’re going to need some help wheeling these babies in. Instruments that are this big are usually an organ, or a full drum set (Complete with a gong!).

A-Rank: (Cost: 2,000 Nuyen x (Size Number), Mod Capacity: 6) Has a +2 modifier to social tests and +3 modifier to performance rolls. However, if the band’s rating is lower than A, the member in possession of the instrument will be scrutinized by other bands and will instead suffer a -2 modifier to social tests.
B-Rank: (Cost: 700 Nuyen x (Size Number), Mod Capacity: 5) Has a +1 modifier to social tests and +2 modifier to performance rolls. However, if the band’s rating is lower than B, the member in possession of the instrument will be scrutinized by other bands and will instead suffer a -1 modifier to social tests.
C-Rank: (Cost: 300 Nuyen x (Size Number), Mod Capacity: 4) Has no modifiers to social tests and +1 modifier to performance rolls.
D-Rank: (Cost: 100 Nuyen x (Size Number), Mod Capacity: 3) Has a -1 modifier to social tests and no modifiers to performance rolls.
E-Rank: (Cost: 40 Nuyen x (Size Number), Mod Capacity: 2) Has a -2 modifier to social tests and a -1 modifier to performance rolls.
F-Rank: (Cost: 10 Nuyen x (Size Number), Mod Capacity: 1) (During character creation, each player may have one F-rank instrument free of charge.) Chipped paint, warped plastic, missing buttons galore. Has a -3 modifier to social tests and a -2 modifier to performance rolls.

Modifications:

Interior Amplifier: (Cost: 500 Nuyen) Broadcast your music anywhere with this device. Great for impromptu jam sessions. No setup needed. Best for a crowd of twenty or less.
Grips: (Cost: 300 Nuyen) Adds a +1 modifier to performance rolls.
Custom Paintjob: ( D- through F-Rank cost: 100 Nuyen, A- through C-Rank cost: 200 Nuyen, Electrochromatic costs: 500 Nuyen) A custom paint job adds a +1 modifier to performance rolls. An electrochromic paint job adds a +2 modifier to performance rolls.
Tone Switch: ( Cost: 400 Nuyen) Gives your instrument an unique sound. Adds a +2 modifier to performance rolls.
Music in Disguise: (Cost: 300 Nuyen x (Size Number), Mod points required: 2) Long ago, there was a flatvid show about robots turning into other things. People watched in awe as their mechanical parts whirled or so I’ve heard. Nowadays, with the right amount of Nuyen and modifications, you can turn your instrument into a different one of the same size like a cello turning into a xylophone or a harmonica turning into a triangle. Has a +1 modifier to all social and performance tests as well as an additional +1 modifier to the next performance test whenever you switch between the two.
Concealed Synthlink: (Cost: 7,500 Nuyen) Doubles the dice pool for every performance roll while using this instrument. If a member was ever caught using this, the entire band would suffer a -1 modification to all social tests for 1d6 month(s). The particular member would suffer a -3 modification to their social tests during this time.
Custom Size: (100 Nuyen) Say you’re a troll that wants to rock out on a flute but you crush it into tiny pieces before you can even play your first note. This mod makes every instrument the perfect size for you. The initial size number still factors into the cost though. Using our troll as an example, if he wants a C-Rank flute. (300 Nuyen x (Size Number:1)) It would cost him 300 Nuyen plus the cost to modify it to his size. (300 Nuyen + (Mod Price: 100 Nuyen) The total price would be 700 Nuyen. Characters suffer a -1 Modifier to performance when their instrument is too small or too big for them.
